Frequently asked questions

How do I know if I'm depressed?

In my experience of working with clients, depression often shows up as feeling dead flat, losing interest in things you used to love, going through the motions, or struggling to get out of bed because everything feels hopeless. There's a scale, so you don't have to be at rock bottom for it to matter.

What are the signs of depression?

Common signs include feeling numb or low most days, losing interest in things, a harsh inner voice telling you you're useless or there's no point, low energy, and feeling hopeless about the future. It often follows a really stressful time in your life.

Can hypnotherapy help with depression?

In my experience, yes. With Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT) and hypnotherapy, we find the story underneath the feelings and change the beliefs that keep you stuck, often in one session. Obviously, if you're working with a doctor, keep following their advice.

Can I have a session online?

Yes. I work with clients all over the world over Zoom, from my base in Rugby, UK.

Is this quiz a diagnosis?

No. It's a self-check to help you notice how you're feeling right now. I don't diagnose. If you're struggling, please speak to your GP too.

What's the difference between feeling low and being depressed?

Everyone has low days. In my experience of working with clients, depression is when that flat, heavy feeling hangs around for weeks, takes the joy out of things you used to love, and starts to feel like "just who I am". It isn't who you are, and it can change.

Why do I feel numb and nothing makes me happy?

Very often, numbness is the mind protecting you after a really stressful or painful time. It switches the feelings down to get you through. The trouble is, it switches the good feelings down too. When we find and clear what happened underneath, the feelings can come back.

Can depression come from something that happened in the past?

In my experience, very often yes. Many of my clients trace their feelings back to a moment or a belief from earlier in life, sometimes from childhood. Their subconscious is still repeating that old story, and once we find it, we can change it.

How many sessions will I need?

Many of my clients feel a real shift after one RTT session, which lasts around 3 to 3½ hours and comes with a personal recording to listen to for 21 days. Some people choose a programme of RTT and coaching for extra support. We'll talk about what's right for you first.

What happens in an RTT session for depression?

We talk about what's going on for you, then I guide you into a relaxed hypnotic state. Together we find the root cause of how you feel and change the beliefs that keep you stuck. You stay aware the whole time. Afterwards, you get a recording made just for you.

Is it normal to feel depressed after a stressful time?

Yes, it's very common. A breakup, losing someone, burnout, money worries or a big life change can leave you feeling flat for months. It doesn't mean something is wrong with you. It means your mind has carried a lot, and it deserves support.
